July-September Prizes

ProgrammingMSAccess.com has for a long time sponsored a quarterly give-away prize program.  There are several important reasons for this.  We like to keep things exciting at the site.  In addition, we wish to offer established as well as up and coming vendors an opportunity to bring their products, books, and DVDs to the attention of ProgrammingMSAccess.com site visitors.  Despite the site’s name, our prizes reflect the continually evolving interests that the ProgreammingMSAccess.com webmaster pursues.  As a result, you are likely to find many prizes available for computer users with interests that extend beyond programming Microsoft Access.

We offer six separate prizes during the July-September quarter.  Three of these prizes are individual copies of the Visually Learn Visual Basic .NET in 12 Hours DVD set.  If you want to learn VB.NET, this is a great learning aid.  ProgrammingMSAccess.com also offers two one-year licenses for the Upgraded Edition of SPAM Blocker.  This is our custom solution to filter email for spam, viruses, and phising scams.  To borrow a popular computer saying: We eat our own dog food.  In this context, the phrase means that we use SPAM Blocker to filter the email that comes to us.  Our final prize for registered site visitors is a copy of Programming Microsoft SQL Server 2000 with Microsoft Visual Basic .NET.  This book authored by Rick Dobson is actually two books in one because of its excellent coverage of both T-SQL and VB.NET.  You can gain eligibility to win any of these prizes as simply as signing the ProgrammingMSAccess.com Guest Book.

If you join our Database Developers Group or attend our web seminar, there are many additional prizes, including a portable DVD player, which you can become eligible to win.  Two prizes for the first member to join or renew during July and August are especially worthy of mention.  The first new or renewing DDG member in July wins a copy of the Microsoft Office XP 2002 Developer Edition, and the first new or renewing DDG member during August wins a free registration to either of our VB.NET/ADO.NET web seminar presentations.  Each of these prizes is worth hundreds of dollars!

You can learn more about all these prizes from the Free Stuff section at the site.

Our DVDs are back at Amazon.com

In the past several weeks, a handful of site visitors mentioned that they could not find our two DVDs for sale at Amazon.com.  There’s no way of knowing for sure how many other site visitors looked for the DVDs, but did not message us to note their disappointment.  We apologize to those who sought to locate the DVD at Amazon.com.  The DVD titles were temporarily de-listed for a technicality about their packaging.  The packaging is now in compliance with Amazon.com scanners, and you can therefore purchase either of our two DVDs.

The first DVD has the title Programming Visual Basic .NET and ADO.NET with SQL Server and Access.  It targets motivated beginners and intermediate level developers who want to ramp up to speed on SQL Server and Access database programming with Visual Basic .NET.  The second DVD’s title is Visually Learn Visual Basic .NET in 12 Hours.  Actually, this DVD set contains more than 12 hours of content for beginning VB.NET developers.

You can learn more about either of these two DVD titles, including links for purchasing them as well as books by Rick Dobson, from the Book and DVD section at ProgrammingMSAccess.com.

A Reminder about Our VB.NET/ADO.NET Web Seminar

The first seminar presentation started on July 13.  Attendees included representatives from Lockheed Martin, an aerospace, defense contractor, as well as Grant Thornton, a major Canadian-based accounting and management consulting organization.  Aside from a once-in-a-lifetime power outage that affected 90,000+ homes and businesses, the seminar went exceedingly well.  One attendee remarked: It’s unfortunate the seminar was interrupted, but I’m looking forward to attending again (during August).

We have sufficient registrants to schedule each of the remaining two presentations of the VB.NET/ADO.NET web seminar, but there are still slots available for each remaining presentation.  Each presentation provides up to 21 hours of quality instruction on programming VB.NET and ADO.NET.  Our 800# provides you with the opportunity to ask questions and hear answers to your questions as well as those from other seminar participants.  You can view slides and live product demos over your normal web connection.  Prior seminar attendees report acceptable screen updates with speeds as slow as 56 KB per second.

One of our seminar pages details the time for both of the two remaining seminar presentations.  You can obtain general information about the seminar at its home page or learn how to register at its registration page.  The last two seminar presentations are in August.  Therefore, now is the time to arrange your participation in this affordable training opportunity.

A New SPAM Blocker Filter Set Released

SPAM Blocker is my personal software solution for filtering spam along with viruses and phising scams in email.  It is our practice to release new filter sets and other improvements for this package about twice a month.  We just issued a new update.  You can learn more about SPAM Blocker, and if it is right for you at the home page for SPAM Blocker.  We know this is an effective package because it blocked over 100,000 spam messages at our test installations.  Just imagine how it could reduce that spam that you have to process manually.
