Hi FullName,
This message brings you good news from ProgrammingMSAccess.com and its webmaster. As many of you know, the webmaster is an author. This message is about the webmaster's most recent book, which is titled "Beginning SQL Server 2005 Express Database Applications with Visual Basic Express and Visual Web Developer Express". I am very excited about my most recent book, and I hope you will appreciate why I am so excited by the time you finish reading this message.
The Book is finally available at Amazon.com
The Amazon.com URL for the book is at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1590595238/qid=1134587447/. I believe that my most recent book is the first book available for sale on Amazon.com about SQL Server Express. My publisher, APress, provided excellent support to help make this possible. In addition, I worked closely with several Microsoft technical persons to make sure the book contains authoritative and timely information about the topics covered in this book.
The book's description at Amazon.com is not entirely accurate. This description was originally posted many months ago. Since then, several improvements in the book occurred, but the description does not reflect these enhancements. I am hopeful that the Amazon.com site will reflect the book's enhancements soon. In the meantime, you can see a summary of the major topics covered by the book and a detailed table of contents from the following two links.

BTW, the FAQ at my site offers answers to some technical questions that you may find helpful. I may move these answers to another place at the site if the answers grow, and the content covers topics that are not specifically on the book.
Why the book is for you
I believe that my most recent book is my very best book in terms of depth of coverage, quality of coverage, and price. My most recent book is the third one that I authored with SQL Server in the title. My second book with SQL Server in the title went out of print even after about 4 years. Resellers at Amazon.com are selling their last copies of the book at over $100. If you are interested in my slant on how to get the most out of SQL Server with Visual Basic 2005, this is your chance to buy a book for about one-fourth of the price of the remaining copies of my previous SQL Server book.
My most recent book on SQL Server Express addresses the needs of several communities of readers.
Database administrators in small and mid-sized organizations who plan to use SQL Server Express will find the book an invaluable learning aid.
MSDE and Access developers who move to SQL Server Express from legacy Microsoft database technology can learn how to take advantage of new features not available in their legacy software.
Classic Visual Basic developers who are looking for a modern, easy way to create database solutions will find tips and trips that let them serve their clients better than ever before.
Business, scientific, and technical professionals who are not IT persons, but who create solutions for themselves or others in their group, will find this book provides especially useful coverage of rapid application development techniques for creating database solutions quickly and easily.
Readers of my most recent book will get in-depth coverage of SQL Server Express. In addition, the book describes Visual Basic Express and Visual Web Developer Express in ways that are particularly appropriate for those creating database solutions. There is especially good coverage of T-SQL programming techniques for SQL Server Express with a special emphasis on query techniques and ways of encapsulating T-SQL in stored procedures and other database objects. You will also find in-depth coverage of SQL Server security topics. You'll also learn how to create Windows and Web form applications. From either type of form, you'll learn how to browse and manipulate data. You'll even learn how to create database objects dynamically at run time.
Why the software is for you
SQL Server Express is the replacement for MSDE. Just like MSDE, SQL Server Express is available without charge. However, SQL Server Express is more valuable in several important respects. First, its database engine is fully compatible with commercial versions of SQL Server 2005. This makes it easy to migrate solutions from SQL Server Express to SQL Server 2005 if the number of users or database size grows beyond the limits of SQL Server Express. Second, Microsoft has a graphical query tool expressly created for SQL Server Express. This new query tool dramatically simplifies creating queries and managing a SQL Server instance for SQL Server Express relative to MSDE.
Visual Basic Express and Visual Web Developer Express are two stand-alone packages that enables you to create Windows and Web form solutions with Visual Basic 2005. For the first year from November 7, 2005, there is no charge for downloading and installing Visual Basic Express and Visual Web Developer Express. Your downloaded copies do not have a one-year time bomb; you can use them for as long as you want. Therefore, you can create database solutions with client interfaces for Windows or Web solutions for free with SQL Server Express, Visual Basic Express and Visual Web Developer Express. Furthermore, Visual Basic Express and Visual Web Developer Express offer many of the advantages of commercial versions of Visual Studio 2005. Just like SQL Server Express, Visual Basic Express and Visual Web Developer Express are especially scoped to be appropriate for small organizations and departments in midsized organizations.
I hope that you found this special edition of the ProgrammingMSAccess.com newsletter informative. As you look forward to the holidays, now is a great time to order a copy of the book. This will enable you to make the most of slow times around the holidays as you ramp up the learning curve for the valuable, free technology available from Microsoft.
We wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Rick
