Last Chance to Win
Prizes
ProgrammingMSAccess.com makes a point of giving away prizes each quarter. This tradition is one of the ways that we say thanks for visiting our site or thanks for joining our Database Developers Group. As we reach the end of a quarter, such as now, you have your last chance to win prizes in a quarter.
This quarter we are offering a couple of great prizes just for signing our Guest Book. First, you can win a copy of DemoCharge 2004. This very interesting product is a screen recorder that generates animated .gif files that folks can play back in their browser. We did a product review of DemoCharge 2004 and a sample recording that you can playback in your browser. Take a look and tell to see if DemoCharge 2004 is good for your needs.
We are especially proud to offer a selection of 3 books
and one
In addition to the above two prizes for Guest Book registrants, we are offering an additional copy of DemoCharge 2004 to one lucky DDG member. To become eligible to win this prize all you have to do is belong to the DDG by December 31, 2004. Since we have many more Guest Book registrants in a quarter than DDG members, you can more than double your chances of winning DemoCharge 2004 by becoming a DDG member on or before December 31, 2004. At this site, our favorite motto is that “membership has its privileges.” The membership to which we refer is membership in the DDG. Use the link at the bottom of this section to learn more about the DDG, including how you can join.

New SPAM Blocker Filters
and a discussion of our filtering strategy
SPAM Blocker is our solution to filtering spam. We have been hard at work perfecting SPAM Blocker for years. One important strategy that we learned is to keep the filters in SPAM Blocker fresh. On December 25, 2004, we published the twentieth edition of our filter set in SPAM Blocker 2.0.
With so many spam filtering programs on the market, you might legitimately ask what’s special about our spam filtering approach. I think there are several important answers to this question.
1. Our version of SPAM Blocker performs extensive content filtering in every part of a message that spammers can store their content.
2. Our SPAM Blocker application currently checks each message against an in-memory database of about 2,600 spam filter values.
3. We programmatically check incoming messages to look for combinations of filter values -- not just specific filter values that spammers can often tweak to bypass filters.
4. We are constantly revising our filters so that those who purchase our upgraded edition can always download the freshest spam filter values to detect the most recent variety of spam messages.
5. This strategy also benefits our standard edition purchasers because they always receive the most current set of filters that we found to be effective at blocking spam.
6. We use our proprietary database of spam messages and contrast it with another proprietary database of valid messages to search for filter values that discover spam without throwing away good messages.
7. Finally, we offer a “Good Sender” filter set that you can easily customize to make sure that messages from good senders are never filtered along with the spam.
Over the years, we have invested thousands of hours examining spam and contrasting it with valid messages. As result of this research, we can offer customized spam consulting services to organizations. For example, we can build custom filter sets for specialized individual organizations. This can be necessary for the firms in some industries because spammers use terms that are common in the industry. In addition, we can train your in-house spam administrators in how to create filters that maximize the detection of spam at the same time that they minimize the filtering of valid, non-spam messages. We have specialized database and programming resources to accomplish these tasks, and we can train your staff in the use of our resources.
