Hi FullName,

This message is your first December message from ProgrammingMSAccess.com.  We are rapidly racing forward to the December holidays and into 2005.  The coming year represents an especially exciting time for users of Microsoft databases (Access and SQL Server) and programming tools (VBA, VB, and VB.NET).  This is because we can count on several new releases coming out in 2005.  At this holiday time, I make a prayer that the God in which I believe heaps his most lavish blessings on you right now and into the coming year.  I will do my best to make your messages from this site be a part of your blessings.

It has been an unusually long interval since your last message from ProgrammingMSAccess.com, and we consequently have lots of good news.  The message commences by reminding you about my most recent DVD, which focuses on T-SQL, and telling you about some new site content on the DVD.  Next, we give you the scoop on the latest release for SPAM Blocker 2.0, which is our VBA-based solution for filtering all kinds of spam.  We also include information about the Database Developers Group (DDG).  The DDG is our vehicle for working closely with this site’s most devoted fans.  DDG members get many unique benefits; this message highlights two special benefits.  We close the message with a reminder about our prizes for the fourth quarter of 2004.  You and your friends can become eligible to win some real goodies as easily as signing our Guest Book.

Rick Dobson’s latest DVD is on T-SQL

If you use SQL Server, chances are you’ll need to program it one day in T-SQL.  Even Access developers creating SQL Server solutions with Access projects can benefit from a rudimentary knowledge of T-SQL.  Rick’s most recent DVD conveys the basics of T-SQL in a way that’s both easy and informative.  This DVD isn’t for dummies.  Instead, it is for novice and other developers who are inexperienced with T-SQL.  After going through the DVD’S seven lessons, you will have completed the first step of your journey to becoming a proficient T-SQL developer.  In addition, you’ll have a resource with scores of practical code samples that you can apply in your own development projects.  If you ever need a refresher on some aspect of T-SQL, you can replay a lesson.

The site adds a table of contents for the DVD this month.  Our table of contents is available as a PowerPoint presentation that you can view from your browser.  It includes the lesson titles as well as the major topics covered within each lesson.  If you don’t see what you want covered in the table of contents, please let me know.  I will be glad to provide feedback about whether it is on the DVD.  If the content you seek is not on the DVD, I will make an earnest effort to include coverage of the topic you want covered in one of my upcoming books on SQL Server development.

Here’s something to look forward to in 2005.  We’ll be offering several T-SQL DVD’s as prizes next year.  If you just can’t wait for the chance to win it as a prize, we have coupons that grant you a 15% discount on this DVD or any of the other two DVDs authored by Rick Dobson.  All you have to do to get your coupon is to be one of the first thirty registrants in our Guest Book during December.  BTW, we are sending out the coupons to the November registrants this week.  If you signed in October, your coupons were mailed about a month ago.

SPAM Blocker is alive and well

For the past dozen messages or so from our site, we have been timing updates to SPAM Blocker with regular messages from ProgrammingMSAccess.com.  Since this message is later than usual so is the update to SPAM Blocker.  This delay is important because SPAM Blocker is most effective immediately after we refresh its filter set, such as right now.  As a consequence of the unusually long interval between the last couple of messages from the site, we are going to offer to send a free copy of the latest update to SPAM Blocker to anyone who bought a copy since November 1, 2004.  Just reply to this message with your request, and we’ll send you the most recent version by email – whether or not you purchased one of our upgraded version that enables you to download updates for 1, 2, or 3 years.

The most recent update is special in a couple of ways.  First of all, we now feature over 2,500 filter values.  This can actually result in more than 2,500 checks for each email message because we check each message in multiple places.  For example, SPAM Blocker looks in a message’s body, at the sender’s name, and what’s in the subject line among other email parts.  From time to time, we add new types of filters as well as more filter values.  The types of filters we add depend on the type of spam going around the Internet.  The most recent new filter type looks in an unlikely spot that spammers recently started using to pass their sales pitches along to you.  Anyway, our new filter type blocks the hole, and now there’s one less reason for you to have to bother with spam so long as you have our version of SPAM Blocker.

Don’t forget that it is easier than ever to download SPAM Blocker after you receive a confirmation email of your purchase.  See our new screen recording right in your browser showing how to copy and paste values from your confirmation message to the download site.  Maximize your browser to ensure easy viewing of the video.

DDG member opportunities

Database Developer Group (DDG) members are special friends of the site, and we make every effort to show our appreciation.  For a modest annual fee, you can purchase a one-year membership.  If you join for two or three years, you get a discounted rate.  There are many great membership benefits, but this message highlights just two.

The first person to join or renew a DDG membership in December wins a copy of DemoCharge 2004.  In addition, any existing DDG member as of December 31, 2004 automatically qualifies for a second chance to win a copy of DemoCharge 2004.  This software is the same program used to create our video clip of how to download SPAM Blocker.  In addition, the ProgrammingMSAccess.com features a product review of DemoCharge 2004.  I encourage you to look over our product review because it gives you a feel for the many different kinds of applications that DemoCharge 2004 can serve as well as how easy it is to use DemoCharge 2004.

A second way that we serve DDG members is by passing along requests for consulting or technical support that site visitors leave in the ProgrammingMSAccess.com Guest Book or mail to the site’s webmaster.  All requestors are screened to make sure that they are willing to pay for professional services.  If you have a consulting practice, and you want a cheap, easy way to get consulting/technical support leads, you owe it to yourself to join immediately.  In the past three months, we issued three consulting referrals to DDG members.  If you win just one consulting opportunity, it could pay for your DDG membership for many years into the future.

Fourth quarter prize opportunities

We really appreciate it when visitors join the DDG, but that isn’t the only way that you can win prizes at our site.  You also become eligible to win prizes from our site when you sign our Guest Book once per quarter (signing more than once does not make you any more eligible, so please sign just once).

This quarter we have three great prizes.  First, you can win a copy of DemoCharge 2004.  Second, you can win a collection of books and a DVD.  This is a set of three of my popular books and one DVD.  If you like the code samples, book excerpts, slide decks, and working demos at this site, then you are going to love this collection.  Third, you can win a complimentary annual subscription to the DDG.  This will make you eligible for benefits like those mentioned in the preceding section plus lots more.

These great prizes will probably help you and your associates.  Therefore, be sure and forward this message to those who you think might benefit from any one of our fourth quarter prizes.  Remember, all they have to do is sign our Guest Book to become eligible.
