FullName,

This is the August message from ProgrammingMSAccess.com.  I am experimenting with a text format.  You may have recalled that most of our recent messages where in a richer format.  Please tell me by replying to this message if you prefer the richer format or this one.

I have three topics to cover with you in this message.  The first item is a reminder about the two remaining seminar presentations in August.  The second item is a heads up about a prize opportunity.  In fact, it is a prize opportunity for one of the two remaining seminar presentations.  The final item is about SPAM Blocker.  Actually, we have two bits of news about it.

JUST TWO SEMINAR PRESENTATIONS LEFT

If you have been getting messages from ProgrammingMSAccess.com, chances are you know that we are hosting a summer series of seminar presentations.  The seminars are on VB.NET and ADO.NET.  Whether you like .NET or you don’t, we’ll all be using it sooner or later.  The earlier you learn about it, the better off you will be.  Each seminar presentation extends over 21 hours in either 3 consecutive days or 2 pair of 3 evening sessions.

The last two scheduled presentations will occur during August, and no additional seminars are currently scheduled for the balance of this year.  If you want to take advantage of this cost-effective and informative training opportunity on a critical topic, you should register now.  All the details, including the dates and times along with the registration fees and instructions on how to register are at http://www.programmingmsaccess.com/seminar2004/.

DDG Prize

The DDG is an abbreviation for our Database Developers Group.  This group has been in existence for nearly a couple of years, and it currently has members in several countries.  In fact, our most recent new member is from the Netherlands, but the majority of DDG members are based in the USA.

At ProgrammingMSAccess.com, we have a motto: Membership has its privileges.  The membership to which we refer is membership in the DDG.  We attempt to honor this motto in many ways, including offering occasional prizes.  The first new member to join or existing member to renew a membership in the DDG during August wins a free seminar registration.  You can attend 6 evening sessions on August 4-6 and 9-11 or 3 day sessions on August 24-26.

If you were waiting for a really great deal on the seminar, this is it.  You can join the seminar for as little as $75, but the seminar registration fee is $450.  Therefore, this is a phenomenal prize if you have any interest in VB.NET or ADO.NET.  This prize is available to just the first member to join or renew a membership.  However, every DDG member as of Setptember 20 is eligible to win one of two different DVDs on VB.NET and ADO.NET, and, of course, any of our general ProgrammingMSAccess.com site prizes.

You can learn more about the DDG, including how to join, at http://www.programmingmsaccess.com/databasedevelopersgroup/.

SPAM Blocker Update

SPAM Blocker is my solution for filtering spam and all that other junk that accumulates in our Inbox, including phising scams, messages delivering viruses, and other undesirable content.  My solution runs as a VBA macro in back of Outlook 2000, 2002, or 2003.  Although it is a VBA macro, the code is reasonably sophisticated, and the filters are extensive.  Currently, the application checks email messages fields, including the body, on around 1,600 filter values.  Furthermore, we update filters about twice per month.  The last update was July 31.  Even if you have another spam filtering application that you use, you may still find it worthwhile to get our SPAM Blocker just to see how to program Outlook with VBA.  You may also enjoy learning about our string processing techniques.

If you get our Standard Edition of SPAM Blocker, you will receive our best set of filters at the time of purchase for a sensational price.  If you get our Upgraded Edition of SPAM Blocker, you can download fresh filters for the life of the license, which can be 1, 2, or 3 years.  We recently added an answer to our SPAM Blocker FAQ giving step=by-step instructions on how to download fresh filters.  We offer rich technical support.  Even with the Standard Edition, you get up to 3 months of free email support.  The Upgraded Edition is available with the same email support plus one technical support phone call for each year of your license.  Our SPAM Blocker FAQ is available before and after your purchase, and you can see that we add to it in response to questions from our users.

You can learn more about SPAM Blocker, including see a link to its FAQ, at http://www.programmingmsaccess.com/spamblocker/.

I hope you found reading this message a worthwhile experience.  I like to close by encouraging you to send our messages to your colleagues and the newsgroups to which you belong.  Someone is bound to thank you for telling them about the seminar, the DDG prize, or SPAM Blocker.  If you decide that you no longer wish to receive messages from ProgrammingMSAccess.com, you can remove yourself from our contact list as easily as typing Remove in the Subject field before replying to the message.  Until the next message, this is the ProgrammingMSAccess.com web master.
