What are folks saying about the "Professional SQL Server Development with Access 2000" book?

  1. Dwight, an Access developer from Kansas, made these comments about the book at the Barnes & Noble web site: By far the best book I have seen regarding the difficulties encountered when moving an Access application to SQL Server. Until reading this book, I couldn't figure out why my Access queries that were 'converted' into Stored Procedures could not reference each other, why my forms would not work, why the tables weren't updateable (primary keys weren't copied during conversion), etc. All these and many more perplexing issues are clearly explained here.
  2. Ken, a database developer from the United Kingdom, posted this comment at Amazon.com: Having spent a number of years using Access to develop commercial solutions, I recently moved on to Access projects and found this book a real find in getting up and running in a short space of time. Covering each topic in logical chunks I found it to be more than a good grounding in the subject. It is also well written in plain English and avoids the unnecessary complications that are often found in such books and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who is considering developing Access projects.
  3. A site visitor from Norway appraised the book with these words: Thank you very much for writing the book "Professional SQL Server Development with Access 2000".  You have done a tremendous job here.  This book is very well written.
  4. A site visitor who also bought the book left this appraisal: I just want to say that your book "Professional SQL Server Development with Access 2000" is just an excellent book!!! It is my bible...

  6. This appraisal of the book comes from an Oracle developer who is part of a team migrating to SQL Server and ASP: I just wanted to take a moment to tell you how much I appreciate your SQL Server book. It's like a standard reference on my desk and I (and my team) use it daily.  I'm an Oracle guy who's come over to SQL Server and ASP and I'm really enjoying both platforms. Your book really helped me in all areas.
  7. An Australian Access and SQL Server developer evaluated the book with this way: I have really enjoyed reading your book, and I like the detailed explanations. If other Wrox books are as good as this, I can imagine my bookshelf filling up with Wrox books!!!
  8. A computer analyst at a securities firm with offices in New York and Pennsylvania sent a message with this appraisal of the book: I've purchased your "SQL Server Development with Access 2000" and would like to tell you that its been a real life saver in moving from Access 2000 to SQL 2000. I have turned to it many times to resolve problems I've incurred.
  9. One of the book's UK readers sent this message after he discovered that Rick Dobson was working on some new books: good luck with the new books – if they are half as good as “Professional SQL Server Development with Access 2000”  I am sure they will be a roaring success.
  10. A developer at the world-renowned Partners Health system offered this appraisal of the book at a SQL Server newsgroup: I have Rick's book right here in front of me and it is an extremely valuable learning tool & reference. If you have worked with Access for a long time (as I have), this book helps bridge the gap to SQL Server.
  11. An Amazon.com customer who also took our Access 2000 and SQL Server Development seminar evaluated the book with these words: This is a book that takes you to the heart of Access 2000 and SQL Server, unlike boring syntax reference manuals...Numerous examples fill the pages of this programmer-to-programmer guide. Within the first couple of hours after reading this book, I was able to dive right in to SQL 7.0 development using Access 2000 project as a front-end development tool.
  12. Here are some excerpts from another Amazon.com customer review: If you need to upsize an Access database to SQL Server, this is the book which will solve all the little problems you might have...it walks you through just about every process you are going to perform in getting all those Access objects converted for use with SQL Server...If you are new to ADO, the book contains an excellent primer to get you started...Speaking personally, this book has served as my bible in upsizing a 240-user Access database replicated over 7 sites to SQL server. If we found it useful, you will too. Get it.
  13. The SQL-Server-Performance.com site reviewed the book with words such as these: Professional SQL Server Development with Access 2000 by Rick Dobson, who is also a columnist with SQL Server Magazine, offers what is probably the best book you can buy on how to integrate Access 2000 with SQL Server...The author offers tips and suggestions throughout the book on optimizing performance...The book is good for for Access 2000 developers who are looking to learn how to "beef-up" their Access 2000 applications. It is also appropriate for SQL Developers who want to learn more about using Access 2000 as a quick and dirty front-end. For both of these groups, I highly recommend you add this book to your library.
